About The Position

STV is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer for our Transportation Group in Chicago, IL. This role involves overseeing and directing construction projects related to highway/bridges, facilities/buildings, or rail/transit projects from conception to closeout. The Assistant Resident Engineer will ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and regulatory requirements by reviewing and verifying contractor submissions, identifying and documenting nonconforming work, and ensuring timely corrective action. This position also requires overseeing and managing project documentation, including RFIs, submittments, daily reports, and change orders, as well as reviewing and ensuring Daily Work Reports (DWRs) are completed accurately and timely. The role includes monitoring contractor performance, project schedules, milestones, project progress, and critical path, and supervising and mentoring inspectors and field technicians to ensure proper coverage and documentation. The Assistant Resident Engineer will serve as the primary contact with CTDOT and project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and agency representatives, to facilitate project success, and will prepare correspondence, reports, and recommendations regarding construction issues.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) with 8 years of experience or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) with 10 years of experience.
  • Experience on transportation infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CTDOT CEI processes, contract administration, and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and methods.
  • Ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work on-site as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of COMPASS and AASHTOWare Project
  • NETTCP – Concrete Inspector, ACI – Concrete Certification, NETTCP – HMA Paving Inspector, NACE, AMP, or BCI – Coating Inspector, and ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor certifications.
  • Professional Engineer License no required is preferred
