About The Position

The Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE), under the supervision of the Resident Engineer, acts in a support role to the RE. The ARE is situated at the work location and fills the role of the RE when they are unavailable. In addition, the ARE performs the duties of the Office Engineer. The project concerns the section of the Upper Catskill from the Ashokan Reservoir to Kensico Reservoir at five (5) of the existing chamber structures. These chambers have been in continual service for more than a century and need restoration and rehabilitation due to their age, weathering, and general deterioration. The five (5) Chamber structures are: Rondout Drainage Chamber located in Hamlet of High Falls, NY Wallkill Drainage Chamber located in Town of Gardiner, NY Hunter Brook North Siphon Chamber located in Town of Yorktown Heights, NY Croton Lake Downtake Chamber located in Town of Yorktown Heights, NY Harlem RR North Siphon Chamber located in Village of Pleasantville, NY

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably Civil)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an ARE and/or OE on NYCDEP infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient in E-Builder.
  • Ability to work closely with project managers, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Clear understanding of construction schedules, inspection reports, and payment reviews.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Fill the role of RE when the RE is unavailable including providing all services necessary and required for inspection, supervision, management, coordination and administration of the Project.
  • Assist with managing the inspection staff and reviewing daily inspection reports in accordance with client requirements.
  • Ensure site safety and compliance with permit conditions.
  • Monitor contractor performance, including schedule, responsiveness, and effectiveness.
  • Support the review, preparation, and processing of contractor payments.
  • Assist with the construction documents, RFIs, change orders, correspondences, and supporting the office and field staff as needed.
  • Lead progress, project, safety, scheduling, and contract administration meetings with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Management.
