About The Position

The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life. This role assists the Residence Manager/Residential Site Supervisor in the effective operation of the residence. In conjunction with and/or in the absence of the Residence Manager/Residential Site Supervisor, provides supervision to direct support staff and ensures the implementation of individualized programming for each person who resides at the residence. This position applies to all IRA locations with six (6) beds or less.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of educational/training techniques for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated competency in working with people with disabilities.
  • Ability to understand and follow written plans and track, collect and interpret data.
  • Acceptable writing skills for record documentation.
  • Ability to oversee delivery of services.
  • Ability to organize time well and manage multiple responsibilities effectively and in a timely fashion.
  • Reliability, adaptability, flexibility and a willingness and availability to work additional, non-scheduled hours.
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain required in-service training, including NYS Medication Administration Certification.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job, including the ability to lift people in order to assist in transferring and positioning.
  • Ability to perform Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) maneuvers and maintain SCIP certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to guidelines established by The Resource Center’s insurance carrier or equivalent accommodations required.
  • High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years’ work experience with favorable work history; OR Associates degree or 60 credit hours of college course work, preferably in a human service-related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to indicate ability to do the job.
  • All Assistant Residence Managers are required to obtain the Front-Line Supervisor NADSP Certification within the first year as an Assistant Residence Manager.

  • Management/supervisory/administrative experience strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Residence Manager/Residential Site Supervisor in the effective operation of the residence.
  • Provide supervision to direct support staff in conjunction with and/or in the absence of the Residence Manager/Residential Site Supervisor.
  • Ensure the implementation of individualized programming for each person who resides at the residence.
  • Provide administrative supervision of assigned residence staff, including preparing discipline, providing feedback on performance evaluations, and providing in-service education, coaching, and development to employees.
  • Ensure Staff Assignment sheets are completed and accurate prior to each shift.
  • Review Plan of Protection (IPOP) Acknowledgement reports, Plan of Nursing Services (PONS) acknowledgement reports, and Behavior Support Plans (BSP) training plans, and ensure all employees have been trained.
  • Provide feedback to Residence Manager/Residential Site Supervisor on employee attendance.
  • Prepare the site schedule to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Provide orientation and training to new staff assigned to the residence.
  • Provide modeling, guidance, and training to direct support professionals.
  • Provide crisis intervention support services to direct support professionals as needed or assigned.
  • Contribute to a positive environment and provide just-in-time training and coaching.
  • Provide direct care and direct support services to assigned people with disabilities.
  • Assist people supported in the pursuit of personal interests in the community and at the site.
  • Support people to attend medical appointments and ensure health information is relayed.
  • Provide care for the health needs of people supported, including calling physicians and ensuring instructions are documented and followed.
  • Provide crisis intervention support services to people supported as needed or assigned.
  • Encourage, guide, and teach people supported in developing daily living skills.
  • Intervene and report any incidents or unusual occurrences as per policy/procedure.
  • Demonstrate appropriate interaction with people supported consistent with the NADSP Code of Ethics.
  • Provide behavioral support to people in accordance with the person’s Behavioral Support Plan and/or Mental Health Monitoring plan.
  • Act as a responsible custodian for The Resource Center as the representative payee, and ensure the security of all assigned funds and property.
  • Use person-centered language, adhere to professional boundaries, and promote cooperation and teamwork.
  • Be involved in completing and/or coordinating tasks that contribute to the effective operation of the household, including transportation, shopping, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, and maintenance.
  • Provide for the health, safety, and comfort of each person supported by addressing day-to-day problems.
  • In an emergency, ensure that all emergency procedures are followed.
  • Model the tasks performed daily by direct support staff and provide guidance and feedback.
  • Provide site-specific training to newly hired direct support staff.
  • Ensure that all duties performed by direct support staff are carried out in compliance with regulatory requirements and TRC policy and procedure.
  • Train all newly hired direct support staff in the completion of all assigned documentation and paperwork.
  • Ensure all staff on shift complete necessary documentation prior to end of shift.
  • Lead pre-shift meetings to promote teamwork and ensure staff are up-to-date on care needs.
  • Participate in the training of new Assistant Residence Managers, as needed or assigned.
  • Promote cooperation and teamwork among all involved in the life of a person being supported.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to assigned direct care employees.
  • Ensure the implementation of a daily schedule of activities and services in accordance with each person’s individual program plan.
  • Assume responsibility for petty cash expenditures and individuals’ personal funds expenditures and ensure the security of all funds, property and supplies.
  • Complete staff assignment sheets and ensure adequate staffing is in place.
  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive service planning activities for each person.
  • Attend annual, semi-annual review and/or other team meetings as necessary and advise team members of significant problems or progress.
  • Monitor and ensure the completion of all required documentation and records.
  • Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team in the development, monitoring, and updates of peoples’ plans.
  • Maintain and promote open communication with peoples’ families and correspondents.
  • Conduct fire drills and submit documentation as required.
  • Participate in conducting pre-placement visits for potential new individuals to the home.
  • Complete all trainings as assigned, including ‘train the trainer’ to support Adult Learners.
  • Maintain NYS Medication Administration Certification and administer medications as prescribed.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations as well as agency and program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality assurance and site/agency re-certification process.
  • Perform all other related duties as needed or assigned.
