About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Assistant Research Scientist position in our neuroscience laboratory, in which rodent preparations are used to model mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness. Circuit mechanisms of normal brain functions and how experiences change them are a focus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and (1) year of professional research experience in an appropriate field, or 30 graduate credit hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Experience with procedures and analysis of data utilizing genetically encoded biosensors and in vivo physiology is critical.
  • Familiarity with programming in Matlab and Python are important.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with vivo viral-mediated gene transfer and opto and chemo genetics is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Handling of research rodents, stereotaxic surgery and monitoring during recovery, behavioral testing, in vivo fiber photometry and electrophysiology, anatomic circuit tracing, neurohistology, microscopy, and data analysis.
  • Probing neural cellular and circuit function and, ultimately, behavior using molecular genetic manipulations.
  • Keeping detailed records.
  • Aiding others in the laboratory with data.
