About The Position

City of Hope is recruiting a biostatistician for a non-tenure track faculty appointment to support clinical trials and pre-clinical / translational research. This role will be a joint appointment in both the Department of Radiation Oncology and Department of Medical Oncology. The biostatistician will contribute to cancer research across the City of Hope System by leading clinical study design (including trials) and analysis that results in high-quality presentations, publications, and grant applications. The goal is to innovate and elevate the academic reputation of City of Hope, both nationally and internationally. Desired experience within Oncology or Hematology, knowledge of small animal study designs and/or ability to write efficient programs in R.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in applied biostatistics/statistics or similar field and have a demonstrable record of accomplishments.
  • Experience (minimum of 1-3 years) in designing and/or analyzing clinical trials. For recent graduates, doctoral level course work may substitute for this requirement.
  • Excellent computing skills and a publication record documenting both self-directed and collaborative research. For recent graduates, work in progress manuscripts may substitute.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to initiate and hold conversation, whether in person, by email, by phone, etc.
  • High energy and enthusiasm for oncology clinical research.
  • Ability to manage multiple collaborations and tight timelines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and research team members.
  • Ability to build, foster, and maintain positive and productive professional relationships.
  • Ability to professionally manage cross discipline and cross institute collaborations, acting as an engaged and proactive subject matter expert.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in clinical research at City of Hope, attending critical meetings and developing statistics tools for the faculty in close consultation with the clinical leaders.
  • Establish a publication and funding track record with faculty in the program.
  • Contribute to science via collaborative research, driving study/trial design and analysis, and co-authoring papers and protocols.
  • Serve as statistician on clinical studies and trial protocols.
  • Develop, evaluate and make publicly available computer code following principles of reproducible research.
  • Develop novel statistical methodologies.
  • Deliver talks on the results of the research.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and contribute to advancements in the field by participating in professional organizations and scientific conferences, reading industry journals, and publishing in high-impact journals.
