About The Position

The City of Sharonville is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable professional to serve as its Assistant Public Works Director. Reporting directly to the Public Works Director, this leadership position assists in overseeing the daily operations of the Public Works Department, including operational planning, infrastructure maintenance, personnel supervision, project coordination, budgeting, purchasing, and service delivery. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting departmental priorities and ensuring the efficient delivery of essential public services throughout the community. This position works closely with City staff, residents, contractors, and outside agencies to address operational concerns, coordinate projects, and support the Department’s ongoing maintenance and infrastructure responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with a solid understanding of public works operations, street maintenance, construction practices, and municipal service delivery.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of public works experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of college coursework in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class A or B; must maintain insurability as set forth by the City’s motor vehicle liability insurance requirements
  • Knowledge of street construction, maintenance, and repair methods, principles, and practices.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting plans and specifications; utilizing computer applications including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software; and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, City officials, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; adapt to changing priorities and operational needs; plan, develop, and implement long-range operational programming; make presentations on operational and departmental matters; perform inspections of work sites; occasionally lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; and work in adverse weather conditions for sustained periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning the daily operations of the department by analyzing task requirements related to personnel, equipment, and materials to maximize effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery
  • Assist in preparation of the department’s budget and annual report and help operate the department within budget limits
  • Assist in assessing departmental needs for purchasing supplies, equipment, training, licensing, and services
  • Supervise departmental employees and assist with employee evaluations and performance management
  • Counsel employees regarding performance concerns and operational expectations
  • Assume responsibility of snow removal operations and other public service responsibilities as directed
  • Prepare written and oral reports for the Public Works Director and other City officials as required
  • Interact with residents and customers to address operational concerns and recommend corrective actions when appropriate
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to Public Works techniques, operations, and management practices
  • Abide by the Standards of Conduct as defined by City Administration
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or necessary
