The Virginia Indigent Defense Commission (VIDC) is seeking an Assistant Public Defender I for its Halifax office. This role is dedicated to protecting and defending the rights and dignity of indigent clients through zealous, compassionate, and high-quality legal advocacy. The position is on the front lines of criminal justice and justice reform, offering a unique platform to develop and pursue social change in a fast-paced, courtroom-based environment. The attorney will handle criminal cases for adults and juveniles, reporting to the Chief Public Defender. Key attributes for this role include compassion for indigent clients, excellent legal skills, the ability to anticipate legal issues, strong writing and brief preparation skills, and effective courtroom advocacy. The position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
