About The Position

Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys appear in the Hamilton County Municipal Court. They are responsible for the management of dockets, making court appearances in person for arraignments, pre-trials, motions hearings, and trials.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
  • Ability to comfortably appear and argue matters before Ohio courts.
  • Critical thinking, decision making skills, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Detail oriented, flexible and quick thinking, and ability to learn new tasks.
  • Good time management, with an ability to prioritize job duties to ensure accurate and timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Fairness, strong work ethic, and integrity, and an interest in seeking justice
  • Strong Legal research and writing skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Lexis/Nexis for legal research.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, primarily Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to conduct business in accordance with State and Federal statutes and guidelines.
  • Ability to perform all other duties assigned, delegated, or required of the Assistant Prosecuting attorney, as well as those prescribed by law.
  • Knowledge of Office practices and procedures; Ohio Criminal Statutes; Ohio Rules of Criminal Procedures; Ohio Rules of Evidence.
  • Ability to Communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with team members, judges, witnesses, other attorneys, police officers, and other court personnel
  • Ability to Litigate complex and serious criminal issues
  • Ability to Train and instruct team members

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in prosecution is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, negotiating, and trying misdemeanor offenses
  • Reviewing complaints, meeting with police officers and victims
  • Legal research and writing, researching issues, and oral arguments
  • Handling arraignment dockets such as night court and Saturday Room A
  • Working within a team structure and supporting other municipal prosecutors
  • Communicating effectively with team members, victims, witnesses, and police officers
