About The Position

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports overall project planning and scheduling, resource coordination, project accounting and control, while assisting with technical direction and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards. The Assistant Project Manager - BESS Division must possess a working understanding of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) design principles and technical specifications to help ensure work is executed within defined parameters. Candidates must be able to prioritize work to support project estimating goals including proposal preparation, bid deadlines, cost targets, and project schedules, as well as preparation of labor and material estimates. The responsibilities for this role span key areas of project management support, including project planning, contract administration, design review and specification compliance, cost, time, quality, and safety management - all while supporting the Project Manager in completing the project on time, within budget, and in full conformance with technical specifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction administration, project coordination, or project management, including experience with BESS, renewable energy, or high-voltage electrical construction projects required.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and industry safety standards.
  • Proficiency with project management and cost control software (P6, MS Project, Excel, EcoSys).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate teams.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Financial acumen and ability to manage budgets effectively.
  • Skilled in negotiation, vendor management, and client relations.
  • Attention to administrative detail, documentation accuracy, and compliance tracking.
  • Frequent travel to job sites and client locations required.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Availability for extended hours, weekend work, and storm restoration duty as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of walking, standing, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual and auditory ability to safely navigate active construction sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credential.
  • Experience with large-scale utility or renewable energy infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with union and non-union work environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with BESS construction projects from start to finish, supporting accountability for technical quality and specification compliance throughout all phases.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, design documents, and technical specifications prior to project execution; assist with confirming that work is performed in accordance with those specifications.
  • Identify discrepancies between design intent and field execution; coordinate with the Project Manager and engineering teams to resolve specification gaps and support corrective actions.
  • Support project planning, budget tracking, and identification of resources needed. Assist the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager with team coordination, objectives, goals, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and documenting meetings including pre-construction, weekly customer, design review, close-out, and lessons learned meetings.
  • Support construction scheduling and work directly with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and General Foreman to maintain baseline and trending schedules.
  • Assist with developing daily work plans, making revisions as needed, and assembling change requests.
  • Complete pre-bid job sheets; compile blue sheets; assist with estimating man hours, materials, and equipment for each project.
  • Track project costs, billings, and schedules; assist with evaluating cost versus profit and reporting variances to the Project Manager.
  • Support safety and compliance requirements; coordinate required training prior to project start and assist with reporting and corrective actions for safety incidents.
  • Maintain proper administration for employee time tracking; review for accuracy before submitting for approval.
  • Maintain project records for tool allocation, inventory, and repairs.
  • Monitor and track equipment usage including rental, owned, and truck use.
  • Coordinate with construction personnel and office project support personnel to help keep project activities aligned with schedule and project requirements.
