About The Position

HDR is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for its Building Engineering Services Business Group in downtown Chicago, IL. The team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team offering Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, and Site Civil Engineering services. The team specializes in Mission Critical engineering and also focuses on Healthcare, Science and Technology, Justice, Power Distribution, and Transportation projects. They are expanding into Commercial Real Estate, Finance, Hospitality, Municipal, Manufacturing/Industrial, and Federal sectors, committed to delivering high-quality designs on time. The Assistant Project Manager will be responsible for project management tasks including proposal generation, quality control, risk assessment, and timely execution of design deliverables. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills for team collaboration, client engagement, and building internal and external relationships. Responsibilities include supporting Project Managers, participating in marketing and project planning, and representing HDR within the local industry. Travel and extended stays at project sites are required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 5 years related experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice To Haves

  • PMP certification
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, project management software
  • Experience designing complex and large-scale healthcare, laboratory, and/or mission critical data center facilities

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's life cycle (from development and initiation to close-out), while under supervision of a Project Manager
  • Responsible for many aspects of a small project or a single aspect of a larger project
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Per the client contract requirements, APM's will be required to work from the sites at all times, applicants shall be willing to spend extended periods on site
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
  • Work with the Project Manager, Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Perform other duties as needed
