About The Position

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for assisting the project management team in identifying projects, preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates, and executing awarded projects for the erection of bridges (steel and concrete) along with concrete structures such as parking garages. This role involves supporting sales efforts, ensuring project accuracy, and managing project documentation and progress.

Requirements

  • BS Degree required
  • Experience in Microsoft Office products required
  • Proficient with PC skills including Microsoft suite is required
  • Ability to travel, if required, is preferred

Nice To Haves

  • BS Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in construction management is preferred
  • Experience with SAP and Hard Dollar Estimating software a plus
  • Can demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Have the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Can demonstrate a basic ability to read and understand drawings and schematics
  • Can demonstrate experience in performing project management support related functions with thoroughness and accuracy
  • Can build favorable relationships with customers both existing and new in an effort to grow the company’s backlog through increase sales
  • Can demonstrate ability to problem solve using the most cost effective approach
  • Experience in how job site conditions affect constructability and costs is preferred
  • Experience in estimating erection of bridge structures / concrete parking garages including knowledge of applicable codes, preparation of erection procedures schematics and timeline criteria preferred
  • Can demonstrate ability to work with design drawings and schematic diagrams to complete the cost estimating process
  • Can demonstrate experience in performing project management functions with thoroughness and accuracy
  • Experience in contract management, participate in negotiations and managing within the terms of the contract preferred
  • Experience in use of estimating systems (Hard Dollar) is a plus
  • Experience with SAP software is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD software is a plus
  • Some overnights required for travel

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the project management team in identifying projects.
  • Preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Executing awarded projects for erection of bridges and concrete structures.
  • Reviewing drawings and specifications, and visiting job sites to prepare cost information.
  • Interacting with customers, owners, and other external personnel.
  • Reviewing design and production drawings, plans, and specifications for accuracy.
  • Consulting outside sources for plans and specifications.
  • Calculating the quantity and size of cranes needed and their placement.
  • Developing project execution plans (manpower, equipment).
  • Coordinating and submitting Site Specific Safety and Erection plans.
  • Reviewing and executing contract terms.
  • Monitoring project progress and maintaining project forecasts.
  • Monitoring project status against KPIs.
  • Ensuring bracing and stability plans for parking garage and bridge projects are followed.
  • Ensuring proper documentation is in place before and during work execution.
  • Performing job site visits to prepare cost information and negotiate change orders/back charges.
  • Preparing, submitting, tracking, and executing change orders.
  • Preparing and maintaining Force Accounts (Time and Material tracking).
  • Developing weekly project plans and tracking the schedule for job completion.
  • Maintaining accurate backlog projection of workload.
  • Establishing proficiency in PC skills and automated spreadsheets/estimating systems.
  • Assisting with administrative duties such as reviewing owner websites for opportunities and downloading bid documents.
  • Entering co-worker expense report data into the Exproc System.
  • Assisting with preparation of estimates and proposals.
  • Ensuring correct prevailing wages are paid and certified payrolls are complete and timely.
  • Coordinating, preparing, and submitting insurance certificates and documentation for OCIP projects.
  • Submitting fringe benefit and payroll information to contractors/states.
  • Maintaining and notifying co-workers of upcoming physical requirements (ICC/DOT/CDL).
  • Tracking and assisting with state and local prequalification (PENNDOT, ECMS, etc.).
  • Supplying and maintaining site-specific information, required postings, or submissions per contract requirements.
  • Participating in HSE Safety Committee meetings, setting up meetings, agenda topics, and issuing minutes.
  • Providing safety information for tool box talks to Superintendents.
  • Obtaining crane permits in a timely basis.
  • Maintaining all AISC/PCI certifications and coordinating inspections/corrections.
  • Setting up/paying invoices for direct billing and working with Travel Time for lodging.
  • Submitting and obtaining FAA permits for cranes.
  • Attending meetings, training seminars, and special courses.
  • Coordinating and organizing project meetings.
  • Promoting a favorable image of the company.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
