About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with project management duties, including ensuring compliance with health and safety policies, interfacing with estimating for project planning, managing scope changes, monitoring work progress, and liaising between project management and planning/estimating to finalize contract documents. The role involves identifying special requirements, maintaining project schedules, managing risks and opportunities, assisting with contract administration, monitoring costs and schedules using EVMS, providing project status reports, managing project documentation, and attending project meetings to take and distribute minutes.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (preferably structural, civil, and mechanical) is desired but not required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years Ship repair/fabrication experience preferred.
  • Four (4) to Six (6) years of experience in different industries may be deemed acceptable.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of marine industry-based project or production management experience preferred.
  • As an alternative, three (3) years of experience in a marine industry environment and a Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, operating and technical manuals, along with drawing and interpreting graphs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
  • Strong Organizational skills and able to use time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to effectively speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations before groups of customers or employees.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps abreast of health and safety policies, procedures and strategies for the company and facility, ensuring compliance by people associated with Projects under their management.
  • Interfaces with estimating to support the development of a detailed plan for executing the project.
  • Understands the project baseline in order to assist with control changes from the agreed Scope of Work.
  • Monitors work and work assignments for the project, and reports progress to Project Manager.
  • Liaises between the Project Manager and Planning/Estimating to finalize the Contract Document, ensuring that any qualifications/clarifications along with the Client’s Approved for Construction (AFC) drawing and specifications are incorporated into the final Contract Document.
  • Identifies to and advises Senior Project Management as to any special equipment, labor, schedule, financial, or insurance requirements that have been agreed to within the contract.
  • Assist with maintaining the Project schedules in MS Project by assessing task completion progress and inputting percentage complete. Resolves schedule maintenance issues with input from Scheduler.
  • Notifies Project Manager of any risk and opportunities associated with the Project and assists to minimize risks and maximize opportunities.
  • Assist with contract administration to ensure contract requirement compliance.
  • Monitors cost and schedule utilizing EVMS and Accounting cost summary reports and reports to Project Manager for corrective action.
  • Provides input to support project planning and work package document development. Daily or weekly reporting as to the project status.
  • Manage and update any necessary project documentation (deliverables lists, action items list, punch lists, etc.).
  • Attends all project meetings internal and external and takes meeting minutes. Prepares minutes and action items list and sends them to Project Manager for review, approval, and distribution.
