About The Position

Horizon Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team in Madison, Wisconsin. This role is ideal for a construction professional who is ready to take the next step in their career by assuming greater project responsibility while developing toward a Project Manager position. As an Assistant Project Manager, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of commercial construction projects. Working alongside Project Managers, Field Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients, you'll help manage schedules, budgets, documentation, project meetings, change orders, and project closeout activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Three or more years of construction experience, preferably in project engineering, project coordination, or project management support.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices, project controls, contract administration, and building systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned project scopes and coordinate daily activities with subcontractors and field teams.
  • Assist with subcontractor buyout, bid reviews, scope development, and contract administration.
  • Update and maintain project schedules while identifying risks and proposing solutions.
  • Lead project meetings and distribute meeting minutes.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to review progress, quality, safety, and project performance.
  • Prepare and manage change orders, invoices, pay applications, and purchase orders.
  • Track project costs and assist with forecasting and budget reviews.
  • Oversee RFIs, submittals, document control, and project documentation.
  • Own the punch list process from creation through completion.
  • Support project closeout activities and lessons learned reviews.
