About The Position

Related Midwest, through its vertically integrated general contracting entity, LR Contracting, is seeking a motivated construction professional for an intermediate project management role supporting large, complex projects or portfolios of smaller projects, including new construction, rehabilitation, and preservation projects. The Assistant Project Manager role is designed to apply and expand knowledge of the construction process. This position supports project execution with increased responsibility and independence, including coordination of preconstruction activities, estimating, scheduling, logistics, cost tracking, financial reporting, contract administration, and field operations. The Assistant Project Manager contributes to the successful execution of projects under the guidance of senior project leadership. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, field staff, preconstruction personnel, consultants, and other key stakeholders while contributing to a respectful, collaborative, and performance-driven team culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent trade experience.
  • 3 – 5 years of general construction experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage portions of a project independently (e.g., submittals, RFIs, cost tracking, scheduling updates).
  • Ability to proactively collaborate with project teams, field staff, and subcontractors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and issues are resolved promptly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Procore, Building Connected, Plan Grid, Textura, eBuilder, Microsoft Suite or similar platforms strongly preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Support management of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout with increasing responsibility for assigned scopes and trade coordination.
  • Assist in coordination between project architects, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams to support project execution and timely issue resolution.
  • Support procurement and subcontractor buyout activities, including bid coordination, scope review, subcontractor evaluations, award recommendations and insurance compliance.
  • Manage assigned trade contractor documentation and workflows, including RFIs, submittmits, meeting minutes and change order process, ensuring timely follow through and accurate project records.
  • Support project cost tracking and change management processes, including monthly pay application reviews, change order evaluations, and cost reporting for assigned scopes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project cost efficiency, constructability, quality, and schedule performance.
  • Support integration of procurement schedules, material tracking and trade sequencing activities with the project schedule.
  • Effectively communicate project updates and issues in team meetings while proactively advancing issues to timely resolution.
  • Support implementation and tracking of quality procedures in coordination with project team members.
  • Manage closeout activities for assigned trades including punch list, final documentation, warranties, and record drawings.
  • Support implementation and tracking of project requirements related to local business participation, workforce development, and community hiring provisions coordinating with project teams and trade contractors to support compliance and project goals.
  • Actively contribute to a collaborative and respectful team culture while continuously developing and applying professional knowledge of the construction process and project management practices.
  • Support and contribute to special projects as requested.
  • Take an active role in documenting and resolving site safety observations in coordination with field teams.
  • Complete assigned safety education.
