About The Position

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for the Wastewater Capital Program (WWCP) within the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC). This role is crucial for overseeing the design and construction of major capital projects, including upgrades for sustainability, resiliency, and state of good repair. The WWCP team focuses on environmental health and safety, quality, schedule, budget, and client service. The Assistant Project Manager will be an integral part of the project team, responsible for achieving project goals, managing consultant contracts, ensuring EHS is integrated throughout the project lifecycle, and coordinating with various city agencies and stakeholders. The position involves monitoring permit requirements, resolving project issues, managing project quality, and conducting field surveys. The selected candidate must possess strong critical thinking, data analysis, and communication skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing responsibilities. Fieldwork is required, which may involve challenging conditions and operating a motor vehicle.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental or fire protection engineering work; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental or fire protection engineering work; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a master's degree in environmental or fire protection engineering from an accredited college.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an integral project team member responsible for achievement of project goals and milestones.
  • Ensure that all prepared program schedules, reports, and work products conform to the program scope of work.
  • Support project team in the preparation, negotiation, and processing of appropriate modifications to consultant contract scope, cost, and schedule for successful project completion.
  • Serve as design and construction support staff ensuring that Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is incorporated throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Focus on client service with operating bureaus, implementation of all project delivery procedures and coordination with all BEDC support groups, such as the Project Controls group (Schedule & Cost), Permit Resource group, etc.
  • Develop seamless communication/coordination with agency bureaus, other city agencies, and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor permit requirements.
  • Assist in resolving project issues and risk mitigation to keep the project moving.
  • Manage the quality of project delivery throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Continuously monitor key performance indicators with respect to budget, schedule and contract metrics.
  • Conduct reliable skilled field conditions surveys and prepare accurate reports on physical observations.
  • Actively participate in field investigations to develop alternative approaches and solutions to meet the project objectives.
  • Attend all required environmental compliance and safety related training classes and adhere to all the related regulations.
