About The Position

Balfour Beatty is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join their team in Raleigh within the Carolinas Division. This role is for an organized and collaborative construction professional ready to advance in project management. The position builds on experience gained as a Senior Project Engineer, offering increased responsibility in financial management, scheduling, subcontractor relations, and leadership of project teams. The Assistant Project Manager will collaborate closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent to plan, coordinate, and execute all construction phases. They will be responsible for budgets, schedules, and documentation, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards. This role offers an opportunity to develop client relationships and refine leadership and business skills while upholding Balfour Beatty’s Zero Harm® safety culture and commitment to excellence. While this is a long-term career opportunity with potential for advancement, the successful candidate will initially support the Wake Early College of Information and Biotechnologies High School project for the Wake County Public School System. This involves partnering with the Project Manager and taking on responsibilities such as cost management, billing, submittals, and RFIs for a project valued up to $40 million.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years of progressive experience in commercial construction project management.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration.
  • Proficiency with project management software (Procore, Primavera P6, Sage 300 CRE, or similar).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Experience overseeing Project Engineers and Interns.
  • Proven ability to lead project meetings and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong client relationship and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing small to mid-size commercial projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying project requirements, managing bid package development, and supporting constructability reviews.
  • Coordinate project mobilization and demobilization activities.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of project budgets, financial reports, and revenue projections.
  • Manage change orders, subcontractor payments, and cost tracking to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Lead pull planning sessions with the Superintendent, assist in schedule development and time impact analyses, and ensure progress aligns with critical milestones.
  • Manage procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Oversee subcontractor scopes, contracts, and performance standards to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Lead the development of the project quality control program and ensure compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Incorporate safety requirements into subcontract scopes, lead safety orientations, and promote adherence to Balfour Beatty’s Zero Harm® principles.
  • Prepare monthly owner narratives, coordinate Owner, Architect, Contractor (OAC) meetings, and ensure timely communication between project stakeholders.
  • Manage project closeout documentation, including certificates of occupancy, warranties, and final financial reconciliation.
  • Support the Project Engineer team through turnover and client transition.
