About The Position

Mortenson is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to partner with the project manager from bid preparation through final client acceptance. This role involves leading, coaching, and mentoring project team members. The initial assignment will be in New Mexico, with a potential relocation to Denver upon project completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of related previous experience.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with all responsibilities for complex projects.
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
  • Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
  • Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level.
  • Demonstrated positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies.
  • Active listening skills and effective communication, including an openness to diverse input and feedback.
  • Ability to travel up to 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cost control and financial management, including working with Preconstruction on project estimates and schedules, coordinating scopes of work, and reviewing/compiling pay applications, change requests, and other project financial documentation.
  • Partner with the Project Manager or Construction Executive on drafting client proposals, contract administration and management, and awarding subcontracts.
  • Provide direction to the project team for safe and timely project completion, acting as a liaison for project engineers, mentoring and coaching others, providing job assignments, managing career development, and directing Field Engineer(s) and Project Engineer(s).
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers for the project, including supervising budgets, making recommendations for subcontractors and trade partners, leading project buyout, and facilitating meetings between subcontractors for project coordination.
  • Perform on-site Project Manager duties on small scope projects.
  • Implement a quality plan to ensure customer's specified performance criteria in design and construction.
  • Effectively work and build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
  • Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance.
