About The Position

United Contractor Services is a specialty subcontractor working on commercial interior projects nationwide. Our scopes include light gauge framing, Division 8 openings, and Division 10 Specialties on large-scale commercial builds. We self-perform, we hold a high standard on quality and schedule, and we hire people who take that seriously. We're hiring an Assistant Project Manager to support our Division 8 team on commercial door, frame, and hardware packages. You'll work directly under an experienced Project Manager, handling submittments, procurement tracking, scheduling support, and day-to-day coordination with vendors, field crews, and general contractors. This is a hands-on position with real ownership of specific project tasks - and a clear path toward running your own projects as you gain experience.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in commercial construction - project engineering, project coordination, estimating, or a related support role
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications, and to review submittal packages for accuracy
  • Comfortable working in project management software and Excel
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to track multiple projects and deadlines at once
  • Clear communicator who can hold a conversation with a GC, a supplier, and an installer in the same afternoon
  • Willingness to learn the code and compliance side of openings work

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with commercial doors, frames, and hardware is preferred
  • Division 10 Specialties exposure is a plus
  • experience with Procore or Bluebeam is helpful

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and track submittals and shop drawings for hollow metal, wood doors, and finish hardware
  • Assist with material procurement, purchase orders, and delivery scheduling to keep releases ahead of field needs
  • Maintain project documentation, RFIs, change order logs, and close-out packages
  • Support schedule development and provide updates on progress, delays, and upcoming milestones
  • Coordinate with general contractors, vendors, and field supervision on openings-related questions and conflicts
  • Help track project costs and flag budget concerns to the Project Manager early
  • Visit job sites to verify field conditions, check installed work against approved submittals, and support field teams
  • Assist with hardware sets, keying schedules, and code compliance verification (UL listings, fire ratings, ADA, life safety)
