About The Position

Under the guidance of senior project engineering personnel, the Assistant Project Engineer leads engineering teams in executing projects or segments of engineering programs. The role establishes requirements, operational objectives, and work plans to support successful completion. It involves planning, organizing, and conducting engineering project segments with diverse technical requirements, coordinating work across engineering functions and external partners, and monitoring technical, budget, and schedule performance. The position works under the direct leadership and guidance of a senior-level project engineer and may approve project-related engineering data for compliance with corporate policies and applicable FAA or military requirements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related curriculum, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions.
Five years of engineering experience.
One year of project management experience.
Experience credit for applicable related advanced degrees is limited to two years for a master’s degree and four years for a Ph.D.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Microsoft Project.
Basic understanding of project management and ability to work cross-functionally and with suppliers as part of a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills, including the ability to persuade others without creating adversarial relationships.
Ability to interact with senior management and key officials of other organizations as required.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Skills and abilities appropriate for the grade as detailed in the department’s skills/knowledge matrix.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with ODA, FAA, and Type Certification.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and conduct segments of engineering projects with diversified technical requirements.
Define project work scope and develop statements of work, task descriptions, product plans, budget estimates, and manpower requirements.
Assign tasks to functional personnel and suppliers, and provide project direction to meet schedules and requirements.
Manage coordination between engineering sections and related functions, including program management, other departments, suppliers, consultants, and customers.
Anticipate technical, budget, and schedule problems and recommend actions to prevent them.
Report key project accomplishments, status, issues, and budget to management.
Approve project-related engineering data to ensure compliance with corporate policies and FAA or military requirements, as applicable.
Work with project team members to resolve technical, budget, and schedule problems.
Build and lead engineering project teams.
Work to improve daily processes and ensure work meets customer requirements.
Maintain current knowledge of technical developments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
