About The Position

Calgary Alternative Support Services (CASS) recognizes its employees as its greatest asset and seeks to recruit and mentor dedicated human service professionals for disability advocacy and community engagement. This is a permanent full-time position located in SE Calgary, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:30, totaling 37.5 hours per week, with potential flexibility required. The Calgary Alternative Residential Services (CARS) program assists individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence through skill acquisition, empowerment, and full societal inclusion. The program utilizes a person-centered planning approach, focusing on individual needs and goals through a self-directed process. The Assistant Program Manager will support the Program Manager in overseeing the effective administration and implementation of services within the CARS Program, ensuring alignment with CASS philosophies, policies, and funder expectations. This role promotes administrative effectiveness by developing, evaluating, and monitoring client documentation, HR tasks, and operational manuals. The incumbent will address administrative issues essential to program operations through performance management in collaboration with the Program Manager. The Assistant Program Manager will also assist in day-to-day operations by supporting, collaborating with, and supervising the CARS team, ensuring consistency in program practices and acting as designate when the Program Manager is unavailable. Additionally, this role includes monitoring services for clients funded under the Disability Innovation Grants (DisInno).

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the Human Services sector.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge in supporting adults with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review intake referrals, complete expression of interests, conduct intake meetings and prepare or review budget templates and funding requests.
  • Ensure program services are aligned with client needs and abilities and make decisions about required changes or transitions in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Ensure quality of service delivery model benefits clients in a meaningful way.
  • Advocate for appropriate and creative supports for clients.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary supports.
  • Review client support satisfaction surveys and other relevant information to evaluate and investigate ways to improve service delivery for all clients in the program.
  • Oversight of services provided under the Disability Innovation Grants (DisInno) funded clients, including completion of all narrative reporting requirements on a quarterly basis.
  • Ensure program’s adherence to agency policies and procedures, and overall agency initiatives.
  • Support and collaborate with CARS Program Manager to assist with the supervision of the team of Community Support Coordinators, Relief Supervisor and Assistant roles.
  • Direct supervision of contractors hired to support DisInno clients.
  • Communicate expectations, assignments and responsibilities to program staff clearly and professionally.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and problem-solving assistance related to program and services.
  • Mentor, teach and train program staff as needed.
  • Assist with bi-weekly CARS team meetings and annual strategic planning.
  • Support performance management and evaluation of CSC and other CARS office roles in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Assist with employee interviews as required.
  • Help develop and maintain all required paperwork and documentation for the program, including operations and training manuals.
  • Address inquiries from staff in other program areas/departments.
  • Demonstrate confidence in agency values and philosophy through leading by example.
  • Champion initiatives being rolled out by the Senior Leadership Team and actively participate in change management initiatives with positivity and adherence.
  • Understand and adhere to CASS Policies & Procedures and program specific expectations as defined in program Operations Manuals.
  • Regularly check email communications and ensure strong comprehension of communications, especially from CASS Senior Leadership, Human Resources, Payroll/Accounting and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize CASS employee management system(s) for designated tasks.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies in accordance with CASS Policy & Procedures and Alberta OH&S legislation.
  • Maintain valid certification in all core training/employment requirements, and any additional training as assigned.
  • Model and demonstrate CASS values in all interactions with clients, staff, colleagues, and community members.
  • Demonstrate respect and collaboration with all internal and external stakeholders of the CASS organization.
  • Demonstrate an ability and willingness to give and receive honest, balanced feedback.
  • Provide consistent and honest support to the CARS program, encouraging positive team morale.
