About The Position

The Southern Queens Parks Association (SQPA) is seeking a full-time Assistant Program Director for its Beacon program at J.H.S. 008 (Richard S. Grossley). The program offers enrichment in youth academics, sports, performing arts, community service projects, and peer mediation conflict resolution, structured like clubs. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, and motivation to develop a comprehensive program. The Assistant Program Director will support all program activities, including supervising staff and participants, training, and implementing program contract goals.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent
  • 2 Years of experience
  • Demonstration of a high degree of interpersonal skills
  • Proven resourcefulness
  • Motivation in developing a full services program

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring all participants follow agency and program policies.
  • Assist with supervising and providing leadership for classroom staff, including scheduling and directing activities.
  • Help ensure participants are engaged in daily activities and maintain the safety and security of all participants, ensuring proper staff-to-student coverage.
  • Ensure attendance sheets are collected daily and numbers are forwarded to the administrator.
  • Communicate program challenges and successes with the Afterschool Director.
  • Assist in coordinating staff meetings, training, and development.
  • Participate in the identification, recruitment, and retention of participants.
  • Attend all staff meetings, workshops, and trainings, including SQPA and DYCD/ExpandED planning meetings.
  • Assist in providing required training to staff members for program and organizational growth.
  • Identify and secure additional resources for program growth.
  • In collaboration with the educational specialist and program site director, assist in researching, developing, and modifying lesson plans based on organizational and/or program themes or initiatives.
  • Assist in collecting and managing data for program management and development.
  • Develop relevant resources to improve and enhance programs and services.
  • Assist SQPA administration in research/grant writing efforts related to program development.
  • Perform projects assigned by the Program Site Director.
