About The Position

The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of Motor Control, Motor Learning, or related disciplines with an appointment to begin Fall 2027. This position is open to candidates with training in a variety of areas, but preference will be given to scholars whose training and work focuses on balance and postural control, neuromotor function, and fall prevention in aging populations. Primary teaching assignments will include both introductory and upper-level motor control and motor learning courses (e.g., Human Motor Control and Learning, Motor Control and Movement Dysfunction, Physical Activity and The Aging Process, Functional Performance Assessment and Programming for Older Adults, Advanced Study in Human Motor Control and Learning).

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Neuroscience, or a related field by the time of appointment.
  • A strong foundation/training in Motor Control and/or Motor Learning theories and research techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability/potential to provide high-quality undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Demonstrated ability/potential to work with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
  • Record of scholarship in their respective area of specialization.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and/or service.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in balance and postural control, fall prevention, or neuromotor rehabilitation, particularly in aging populations.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to secure external funding.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration across kinesiology, aging science, gerontology, physical therapy, or public health.
  • Familiarity/experience with high-impact teaching practices (such as service-learning or community-based learning).

Responsibilities

  • Development and teaching of introductory and core courses in the discipline.
  • Development of courses in their area(s) of specialization.
  • Producing scholarship / creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure.
  • Contributing to and participating in the life and development of the department.
  • Advising students.
  • Serving on committees.
  • Participating in the broader university and disciplinary communities.
