About The Position

Fort Hays State University, Department of English and Modern Languages, is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Spanish. This position involves teaching a range of Spanish courses, developing curriculum, mentoring students, participating in departmental and university governance, and maintaining an active research agenda. The department offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Spanish, and a Master of Arts in English, with programs available both on-campus and online. The university is located in Hays, Kansas, a vibrant college town with a strong community and recreational opportunities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related area from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching a wide variety of Spanish courses at the college level.
  • Experience mentoring and promoting student engagement at the undergraduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 hours per academic year on campus, including elementary and intermediate Spanish courses, grammar and composition, and Latin American literature/cultural studies.
  • Develop course materials for existing courses and develop new courses as needed.
  • Mentor students and participate/coordinate student activities within the department.
  • Participate in department/college/university-level governance and initiatives and community outreach as part of service responsibilities.
  • Maintain active research agenda with scholarly publications required for tenure and promotion.
