About The Position

The Assistant Professor, Term Tenure Track will report to the Chair of the Department of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. The Assistant Professor, Term Tenure Track will provide clinical care to patients, manage care teams for both inpatient and outpatient settings, and provide a teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students in the specialties of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. He will independently design, execute, and conduct a broad range of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy research projects in his respective field with a focus on translational and clinical studies.

Requirements

Must be capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
Must be able to perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician’s subspecialty.
This may require standing, bending, stooping, lifting, hearing manual dexterity, and clear and concise verbal communications.
Keeps current with educational requirements and standards by level of trainee as it pertains to institutional, state, medical board and crediting body.
Practices clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.
Completes patient documentation for medical records within timeframes required by institutional policy; will require dictating in a clear and concise manner, and visual review of documents.
Visually reviews for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents in accordance with Institutional policy.
Corresponds as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
Keeps abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty.
This will require listening to and assimilating information from conferences.
Requests appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
Able to work within a context of very intense interpersonal relationships including other physicians, patients and staff.
Requires that the person have the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research.
May necessitate (orally or in writing) instructing research support personnel in protocol implementation.
May require completion of grant applications and will also require budget development and analysis.
Will require traveling to sites outside of the Houston area and, upon return, disseminating the information obtained or learned by sharing with department colleagues verbally or in writing.

Responsibilities

Serves on institutional and hospital committees and attends appropriate meetings, which may include travel to each meeting site.
Attends, participates, and leads Department teachings and continuing education conferences.
Practices clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.
Must be capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
Must be able to perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician’s subspecialty.
Develops and maintains a clinical practice for patients referred to UT MD Anderson.
Provides physician staffing for the Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy and consult service at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other medical oncologists with the same level of training and experience.
Manages of patient-care provider teams.
Completes patient documentation for medical records within timeframes required by institutional policy; will require dictating in a clear and concise manner, and visual review of documents.
Visually reviews for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents in accordance with Institutional policy.
Corresponds as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
Keeps abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty.
Requests appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
Acts as a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, students, and staff.
Provides peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.

Actively engages in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the department.
Develops programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping with the goals of the Department.
Seeks appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research.
Presents relative research findings through timely publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.
Possesses consistent record of successful, independent, and peer-reviewed research funding.
