About The Position

The Department of Accounting at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member for the Nazarian College of Business and Economics at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will primarily focus on teaching Taxation and related fields, with research interests in the same areas. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an ongoing program of scholarship in Taxation to meet AACSB accreditation requirements for "Scholarly Academic" status. In addition to teaching and research, the role involves weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participating in student learning assessment, and providing service to the department, college, and university. The candidate will be evaluated based on the standards of the college and department for tenure and promotion. Given CSUN's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the new hire will contribute to the Department's academic outcomes for all students through teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or DBA in Accounting or related field from an AACSB-accredited institution. An A.B.D. will be considered, with a terminal degree completed by August 19, 2027.
  • Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) in Taxation or a related field from an ABA-accredited institution.
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited institution, coupled with an LLM in Taxation from an ABA accredited institution or a Master's in Taxation (or Accounting) from an AACSB-accredited institution, along with a CPA credential or significant accounting work experience.
  • Potential or evidence of excellence in university-level teaching in both in-person and remote modalities.
  • Potential or evidence of excellence in scholarship through publication in high-influence peer-reviewed academic journals.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
  • Must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment (mandated reporter under California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant prior professional work experience in the field, preferably in taxation.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed attorney or Enrolled Agent (EA) by the time of the appointment.
  • Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with and mentor a diverse student body.
  • Teaching experience in the taxation field.
  • Experience creating a student-centered learning environment, including active and interactive learning.
  • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy.

Responsibilities

Benefits

  • Salary Scale: $130,000 to $158,000 (Dependent upon qualifications).
