About The Position

The Special Education Program in the Department of Education prepares undergraduate and graduate students for K-12 teaching licenses in special education. The program is approved for licensing by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. Courses are offered through both campus-based and online delivery (synchronous and asynchronous). This position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education and contribute to the ongoing development of accessible, online and hybrid courses in special education. The position will supervise teacher candidates in public schools; participate in program review, development, and accreditation processes; and advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in special education or closely related field.
  • Minimum of three years licensed, contractual, full-time teaching in K-12 special education for students with emotional or behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, and/or autism spectrum disorders.
  • Evidence of specialization related to standardized assessment and evaluation systems to determine eligibility in special education.
  • Evidence of specialization related to teaching multilingual or English learners with special needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses effectively.
  • Experience with face-to-face and online course delivery (synchronous and asynchronous) and use of technology in teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from minoritized, historically marginalized, and/or culturally diverse groups.
  • Must be able to teach in-person and online courses.
