About The Position

The Department of Sociology at BGSU invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Criminology. This position is part of a nationally ranked doctoral program with specializations in family, demography, and social psychology, in addition to criminology. The department consists of 13 faculty members and approximately 30 graduate students. The faculty are dedicated to excellence in both teaching and research, often collaborating on projects and securing external grant support from funders like NIH, NIJ, and NSF. BGSU is also home to several research centers, including the Center for Family and Demographic Research, the National Center for Family and Marriage Research, and the Center for Aging Families. The College of Arts and Sciences, where the department resides, aims to ensure graduates are career-ready and that faculty research contributes to the public good. This includes fostering experiential learning and connecting scholarly work to regional needs. Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology or related field (e.g., Criminology) and the requirements for the degree satisfied by the start of employment
  • Research focus in criminology
  • Experience teaching and/or mentoring undergraduate or graduate students in criminology or sociology
  • Coursework and research experience sufficient to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in quantitative methods
  • Demonstrated research productivity through one or more published or in-press articles in peer-reviewed criminology or sociology journals
  • Evidence of ongoing research projects through presentations within the past three years at conferences in criminology or sociology

Responsibilities

  • Teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses in the criminology and quantitative methods areas as well as some general sociology courses
  • Develop a research agenda that leads to publications in leading criminology and sociology journals

  • Provide service to the department, college, and university as well as to the profession at a national level
