About The Position

The Department of Breast Surgical Oncology Research at UT MD Anderson in Houston, Texas is seeking a scientist at the Assistant Professor, RFA level to enhance the department's translational research capabilities. The department is committed to excellence in breast cancer research and education, including training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in cancer biology, prevention, and treatment. This role will focus on liquid biopsies, such as enumerating and characterizing circulating tumor cells (CTCs), assessing circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), exosomes, and/or methylation. The RFA position is responsible for translating laboratory discoveries into peer-reviewed grants and publications, and for sharing research expertise to improve clinical practice in oncology. This includes writing or assisting with writing peer-reviewed papers and grant proposals, and proactively seeking funding. Grant application completion, submission, budget development, and analysis are expected. The role also involves attending seminars and assisting with teaching students and trainees in the laboratory. Breast Surgical Oncology faculty are expected to work effectively within intense interpersonal dynamics with faculty, staff, and visitors, and to serve as a scientific role model for faculty, fellows, and trainees.

Requirements

Previously participated in an appropriate academic, industrial or governmental research program.
Has evidence of ability to carry out individual collaborative research and support, or to play role in departmental or institutional research initiatives.
Has co-author or senior-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Must be able to work within a context of very intense interpersonal relationships including other faculty, staff and visitors and be a role model as a scientist for faculty, fellows, and trainees.
Requires the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research.
