About The Position

The University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, is looking to fill a tenure-track position in the Common Law Section for July 1, 2027. The Common Law Section offers its Juris Doctor (JD) programs in English and French. It also offers master’s and PhD programs jointly with the Civil Law Section. From its location on the unceded territory of Anishinaabe-Algonquin people, in the heart of our nation’s capital, the Common Law Section, with more than 1,200 JD students and more than 200 graduate students, is resolutely focused on innovation and international outreach, promoting inclusive teaching and research.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Common Law or equivalent, together with a PhD in law or a related discipline (or PhD nearing completion) or an LLM.
  • Excellent university record, extensive experience in research and publication, including external research scholarships or eligibility for such scholarships, capacity for excellence in teaching, and participation in academic life and faculty governance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Passive knowledge of Canada’s other official language is compulsory for tenure.
