About The Position

The Department of Psychology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Industrial/Organizational Psychology to join our community starting in August 2027. The Department of Psychology has 19 tenure-line faculty members and approximately 750 majors. We are a collaborative and collegial community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni who value the processes of critical inquiry and discovery in the laboratory, the classroom, and the community. Consistent with the mission of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, we strive to provide experiences through which our students can become analytical, critical, and creative thinkers, conscientious and active global citizens, and lifelong learners and leaders. Through the entwined roles of teaching and scholarship, we strive to prepare our students to contribute to their communities and pursue their chosen careers. The Department is deeply committed to fostering learning and professional development opportunities for all of its students, including through faculty-mentored research and internships. We seek a colleague with the potential or demonstrated ability to effectively teach and conduct research with undergraduate students in the area of Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The standard teaching load is 3 courses per semester. All new tenure-track faculty members receive one course release per year in two of their first three years to support their scholarship. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach Organizational Psychology, Industrial Psychology, and research methods or statistics, as well as an advanced undergraduate seminar in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will also be prepared to develop and lead a research lab with undergraduate students that will count as a course in their teaching load. Candidates should be committed to inclusive excellence in higher education, demonstrated through, for example, culturally responsive course design and pedagogy, equity-minded student engagement and mentorship, and cultivating intercultural competencies needed for meaningful citizenship. TCNJ’s faculty reappointment and promotion standards for teaching and service are articulated in the College’s Reappointment and Promotions Document, and the standards for scholarship are available in the Psychology Department’s Disciplinary Standards Document. Faculty are represented by American Federation of Teachers Local 2364, which belongs to the Council of New Jersey State College Locals. TCNJ has a strong commitment to inclusive excellence in our community and to supporting a healthy work-life balance for our faculty of teacher-scholars. Teaching and research are mutually supportive activities at TCNJ. Candidates should be strongly committed to the teacher-scholar model, to maintaining both high-quality teaching and an active and productive program of scholarship, and to encouraging and mentoring highly motivated students in intensive work both inside and outside the classroom. They also serve as academic advisors and have service responsibilities within their department, school, and the college. Although not required for tenure and promotion, faculty are encouraged and supported in seeking external funding consistent with this mission. TCNJ supports its community of teacher-scholars through a progressive faculty workload model, internal grant and sabbatical programs, funds for professional travel, engaging professional development programs, and other mechanisms. These intentional efforts support the recruitment, retention, and success of our faculty, particularly our teacher-scholars from groups traditionally underrepresented in academe.
