About The Position

The Department of Psychology at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to begin July 2027. While the specialty area is open, the department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in clinical and/or counseling psychology. The area of subject matter expertise is also open, with a preference for candidates whose expertise prepares them to teach needed courses in areas such as psychological assessment, developmental or clinical-developmental psychology, research methods, statistics, measurement, biopsychology, neuropsychology, and/or health psychology. The selected individual will contribute to the department's teacher-scholar identity, teaching courses in their specialty, engaging in research, mentoring students, and participating in departmental and university service. The department is one of the largest at the university, serving over 700 undergraduate and graduate students across B.A., M.S., and APA-accredited Psy.D. programs, emphasizing a scientist-practitioner model and holistic student development. Requirements

• An earned doctorate in psychology, conferred no later than July 2027.
• A clear record of promise as a scholar.
• The ability to teach courses in areas of need for the department.
• Strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including an appreciation of or engagement in high-impact teaching practices.
• Eligibility to work in the United States and complete employment eligibility verification by the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Expertise in clinical and/or counseling psychology.
• Expertise in psychological assessment (personality assessment, cognitive assessment, assessment and appraisal).
• Expertise in developmental or clinical-developmental psychology (child, adolescent, lifespan, gero psychology).
• Expertise in research (research methods, statistics, measurement).
• Expertise in biopsychology, neuropsychology, and/or health psychology.
• Strong leadership potential and interest in serving significant post-tenure departmental and university leadership roles.
• Previous experience and evidence of successful teaching as the instructor on record.

Responsibilities

• Teach 6 courses per academic year (5 in the first year).
• Engage actively in research related to their chosen fields of study and scholarly expertise.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Participate meaningfully in the life of the department and university through service (20%).
• Supervise PsyD dissertations.
• Supervise undergraduate research (with opportunities for accrued compensation).
• Contribute to the Jesuit educational mission of the department and university.
• Create a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom.
• Infuse multicultural content into course material as appropriate.
