Assistant Professor, Psychological Generalist
About The Position
The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) is seeking a candidate for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position as a Psychological Generalist beginning Fall 2027. We seek a collaborative teacher-scholar who is passionate about liberal arts undergraduate education, committed to inclusive and engaging pedagogy, and eager to mentor students in research and applied inquiry. The department especially welcomes candidates who are committed to inclusive excellence and who have experience engaging students from diverse backgrounds through innovative and evidence-based teaching practices. Teaching responsibilities include: Teaching 5-6 courses, depending on lab courses, per academic year, delivered with flexible delivery including in-person, online, and mixed. Courses include Research Methods in Psychology or History of Psychology in Social Context, and other courses in our curriculum or new courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. In addition to teaching, faculty responsibilities include: Student advising and research mentoring, maintaining an active scholarship agenda, providing service to the department and/or university, and working with department colleagues to continually strengthen and advance the program. The Psychology department seeks to attract, retain, and develop faculty from all backgrounds to enhance the diversity of our learning community and to offer students richly varied perspectives. St. Thomas also offers a robust faculty development/advancement program that provides support, including pre- and post-tenure grants, for teaching and research at all stages of a faculty member’s career. Requirements
- A doctoral degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Psychology or related field, or alternatively, ABD candidates nearing completion will also be considered, with an initial appointment made at the rank of instructor.
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Show strong potential for productive research/scholarly activities.
- Ability to teach Research Methods in Psychology or History of Psychology in Social Context.
- Interest in teaching other courses that enhance our current offerings.
- Potential for inclusive classroom practices to support students from varied backgrounds and with varied interests.
- Ability to establish a vibrant, high-quality and inclusive research program at a well-equipped undergraduate institution that has the potential to be competitive for external funding.
- Ability to involve and mentor undergraduate collaborators in their research.
