About The Position

The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) School of Public and Population Health (SPPH) is the newest of five schools. SPPH began as the former Preventive Medicine and Population Health (PMPH) Department, established in 1912. As such, SPPH has a rich history of advancing preventive medicine and community health practice, education, and research for over 100 years! SPPH faculty are uniformly invested in leveraging research as a tool actualize our mission, which is to achieve ‘Better Health for All’. Within the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities (PHHD), our mission is to be positioned as the premier academic program leading research, scholarship, and education in population health in Texas with a national and global reach. Our vision is to help each community member to achieve better health. We are inviting our next faculty member to join us in actualizing that mission and vision. Our faculty members are aligned through our unified focus on preserving the health of aging adults (18 years and older) and advancing core value, which is to improve the health of populations. Together, we leverage team science within a thriving and welcoming environment where faculty respect and appreciate the multiple contrasts in the way we conduct research and the multidisciplinary approach we use in pursuit of population health.

Requirements

  • At the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor
  • Have a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent degree
  • Sufficient years of related experience
  • A track record of funded research as PI and/or Co-I
  • Demonstrate familiarity with their specialty field
  • Illustrate experience with working with and/or building collaborative teams, and
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of a multidisciplinary academic health sciences environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in health policy or environmental health (e.g., environmental science, toxicology)
  • Moderate to significant teaching or training experience
  • Master of Public Health preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high quality research and disseminate findings through publications
  • Collaborate with researchers at UTMB and researchers at the local, regional, national, and/or global level
  • Obtain, sustain, and grow external funding for research and/or training programs
  • Participate on current UTMB research grants and contracts
  • Compete for, secure, and sustain funding for new projects
  • Teach SPPH courses
  • Advise and mentor graduate and/or medical students
  • Serve on thesis and dissertation committees
