About The Position

Eastern New Mexico University’s (ENMU) Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin January 2027. ENMU seeks candidates with expertise in Wildlife Biology or related organismal biological fields, with a preference for research in Mammalogy, Herpetology, or Ichthyology. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to establish a research program that engages students in applied and/or basic research. This is a residential appointment, and campus presence is required.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field; ABD will be considered.
  • Expertise in wildlife biology, conservation, terrestrial mammalogy, herpetology, or fisheries science.

  • Ability to develop and maintain an active research program

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Biology, including but not limited to Wildlife and Fisheries, Introductory Biology, Ecology, and advanced courses in Mammalogy, Herpetology, or Ichthyology.
  • Establish an active wildlife research program that provides training and applied and/or basic research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Seek and obtain extramural funding to support research efforts.
  • Direct and mentor graduate students in theses and research projects.
  • Maintain appropriate service to the department, college, and university, including service on departmental, college, and university committees, assisting with the departmental recruitment and retention efforts, and advising undergraduate students.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
