The Department of Theatre in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre to start in August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. Summer appointments are possible, depending upon funding and enrollment. We seek a candidate with expertise in Theatrical Voice and Speech, as well as the potential for or record of a strong and developing national reputation achieved through compelling research and/or creative record. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. This is an in-person position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. The Department of Theatre combines the breadth of a liberal arts education with the rigor of professional artistic training. Students engage deeply with theatre as both an academic discipline and a collaborative art form while working closely with expert faculty mentors in the classroom, studio, and production environment. Undergraduate students benefit from a broad educational foundation and have opportunities for intensive pre-professional training, while graduate students pursue advanced professional development and creative research. Undergraduate Concentrations: Performance, Design and Technology, Drama Education, Theatre Studies; Graduate Degrees: MFA in Theatre with emphases in acting, costume design, directing, lighting design, playwriting, and scenic design.
