About The Position

The Music Department at Utah State University is seeking a Temporary Assistant Professor of Saxophone to lead its classical and jazz saxophone programs. This is a 9-month academic-year appointment starting August 1, 2026, with the possibility of renewal. The role involves teaching applied saxophone, recruiting for the saxophone studio, coordinating master classes, and directing the Jazz Orchestra. The position also includes assisting with instrumental performance, band, and music education programs, as well as coaching jazz groups and performing with faculty ensembles.

Requirements

  • Doctorate or master’s degree in music with significant professional experience at the national/international levels
  • Accomplished teacher and performing musician
  • Engaging teaching manner
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Experience/skills in both classical and jazz
  • Evidence of successful recruitment and teaching

Responsibilities

  • Applied saxophone instruction
  • Recruiting for the saxophone studio
  • Coordinating and conducting appropriate master classes
