About The Position

Elon University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in religion and religious ethics, as well as Elon’s Core Curriculum. The position involves continuous improvement of the Religious Studies major curriculum, conducting academic research, and mentoring students. Responsibilities also include participating in departmental and university service activities, such as undergraduate research, study abroad programs, committee work, and advising student organizations. The role requires a consistent output of scholarly publications and contributions to the university community through service.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Theology or related field.
At least one (1) semester (or approximately 4 months) of work experience evidencing demonstrable ability to perform the stated job duties.
Evidence of four to six in-review or published papers.
New hires subject to background check.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in religion and religious ethics, and Elon’s Core Curriculum.
Continuously improve the curriculum of the Religious Studies major.
Conduct academic research in Religious Studies.
Mentor students in their degree progress, course plan, and academic research.
Participate in services and activities at department and university levels.
Support undergraduate research, studying abroad, serving on university and school committees, and advising student organizations.
Create a constant stream of scholarly publications.
Contribute to the life of the university through service.
