About The Position

The Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks to hire an Assistant Professor with a research focus in American Political Thought and/or American Constitutionalism. The department is particularly interested in scholars of the American founding period who can demonstrate the enduring value and significance of founding-era political and constitutional thought. Applicants should possess a PhD in Political Science and have an impressive record of scholarly publication or a productive research program with excellent publishing potential, along with demonstrated rigor in ongoing and future scholarship. The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Political Theory, American Political Thought, the History of Western Political Thought, and/or Constitutional Law, demonstrating a record of or potential for teaching excellence in these areas. The department's usual teaching load is three courses per academic year. The candidate will contribute to the College of Letters & Science's educational mission, which values evidence-based and student-centered teaching and mentoring, and foster an environment of engagement and belonging for faculty, staff, and students. They will also proactively support and advance the college’s commitment to excellence in all aspects of their work.

Requirements

  • PhD in Political Science or similar by the start of appointment.
  • Impressive record of scholarly publication or a productive research program with excellent publishing potential.
  • Demonstrated rigor in ongoing and future scholarship.
  • Demonstrated fostering or the ability to foster a teaching, learning, mentoring, departmental, and a research environment where all can thrive.
  • Dedication to excellence in student-centered teaching and mentoring.
  • Ability to purposefully plan teaching practices, evidenced through goals, action plans, reflection, and related documentation.
