About The Position

The Frances and Laurence Weinstein Chair in Modern European Jewish History is an Assistant Professor position focusing on Modern European Jewish History (1750–present), with an open geographic field and chronological focus. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in modern European Jewish history and at least one course annually on the Holocaust. An endowment associated with this position will provide an annual fund to support public-facing programs related to the Holocaust. The Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies, founded in 1991, is a multidisciplinary undergraduate program offering a major and certificate (minor) in Jewish Studies. It fosters collaborations with various departments and programs across the UW–Madison campus. As part of the College of Letters & Science, the position values excellent teaching, classroom innovation, and shared governance. The Weinstein Chair will contribute to the College's educational mission by prioritizing student-centered teaching and undergraduate mentoring, fostering an inclusive environment, and advancing the College's commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service. Tenure will reside in the Center for Jewish Studies.

Requirements

Ph.D. in history required at time of appointment.
Proficient in the language(s) of their region of study.
Demonstrate the ability to foster a teaching, learning, mentoring, departmental, and a research environment where all can thrive.

Materials should showcase the applicant’s ability to purposefully plan their teaching practices, evidenced through goals, action plans, reflection, and related documentation.

Responsibilities
