About The Position

Emory University is a leading research university seeking to foster excellence and attract world-class talent. This position is for an inpatient Hospital Medicine faculty physician for Grady Memorial Hospital within the Emory Division of Hospital Medicine, Department of Medicine. The role involves a significant portion of professional effort dedicated to professional service, including patient assessments, bedside procedures, consultations, and coordinating care with outpatient providers. There is also an expectation for scholarly activities and teaching, aligning with the School of Medicine's guidelines for appointment, promotion, and tenure.

Requirements

  • Faculty physician for Grady Memorial Hospital.
  • Inpatient Hospital Medicine experience.
  • Ability to participate in scholarship (e.g., authorship of manuscripts, research studies, abstract presentations, professional blogs).
  • Ability to participate in teaching (e.g., lectures, small group and bedside teaching, preceptorship, mentorship).
  • Perform history and physical examinations.
  • Assess patient acuity and ensure proper level of care.
  • Perform bedside procedures as needed and credentialed for.
  • Provide and order consultations.
  • Initiate contact with primary care providers for continuity of care.
  • Work with trainees including allied health professionals.
  • Adhere to clinical schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Devote between 1% and 25% of total professional effort to scholarly activities, which may include authorship of manuscripts, participation in research studies, abstract presentations, professional blogs, and other scholarly activities.
  • Devote between 1% and 25% of total professional effort to teaching, which may include occasional lectures, small group and bedside teaching, preceptorship, and mentorship.
  • Devote more than 75% of total professional effort to professional service as an inpatient Hospital Medicine physician.
  • Perform history and physical examinations of patients being admitted to the hospital.
  • Assess the acuity of hospitalized patients and ensure a proper level of care.
  • Perform bedside procedures as needed and credentialed for.
  • Provide consultation services for specialty provider partners.
  • Order consultations from specialty provider partners.
  • Initiate contact with primary care providers and teams in the outpatient setting to ensure appropriate continuity of care.
  • Work with trainees, which may include allied health professionals, on some months.
  • Adhere to clinical schedule in accordance with internal Division policy and procedures and according to actual clinical effort.
