About The Position

Marian University's E.S. Witchger School of Engineering is seeking a full-time, non-tenure-track assistant professor in mechanical engineering to start in August 2026. The university is a Catholic, comprehensive, national institution with a strong commitment to Franciscan and liberal arts traditions. The ideal candidate will contribute to the university's Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by focusing on areas such as advanced manufacturing, robotics, automation, additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, sustainable engineering, renewable energy, controls, and mechatronics. The role emphasizes innovative pedagogy, integrating hands-on and community-based learning, and fostering entrepreneurial-minded learning as part of the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN) initiative. Requirements

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and strategic vision of Marian University.
  • A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence and innovation in student-centered instruction of students of varying abilities at the university level.
  • Demonstrated interest in science teaching pedagogy, curriculum and program development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues of diverse backgrounds.
  • Work hours necessary to perform job requirements satisfactorily on a regular basis.
  • Manage absence from work in responsible manner to ensure service to clients, work teams, and coworkers.
  • Comply with Marian University policies and practices and seeking clarification of them when necessary.

  • Experience with online teaching is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Teach up to 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Engage students in research, scholarship, and other professional activities.
  • Mentor and advise students through academic advising, student societies, research, and internship opportunities.
  • Participate in the life of the campus, including participation in faculty governance and co-curricular programs within the engineering school and across the university.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and assessment within the department.
