The University of Virginia's Department of Mathematics invites applications for an Assistant Professor (General Faculty) expected to begin August 10, 2026. We are particularly interested in candidates who would like to contribute to the leadership of our teaching mission in the lower division and whose career focus is on teaching and learning mathematics. The core responsibilities of this position include teaching up to six courses per year (three each during the spring and fall terms). Additional duties will likely include serving as a mentor for graduate TAs, providing leadership in our teaching mission, and coordinating the department's Calculus I & II course offerings, with a course release for such coordination. This is a continuing three-year, tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility (but not the guarantee) of renewal. The Department of Mathematics' General Faculty team is a dynamic group that works together to implement evidence-based teaching practices in order to improve student outcomes in coordinated introductory mathematics courses. Opportunities to participate in graduate TA professional development and/or and re-design efforts to improve existing courses might be available.
