About The Position

The University of Akron is seeking an Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach courses in the School of Nursing. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position. The role involves delivering assigned in-person courses, providing clear communication and feedback to students, monitoring student progress, and maintaining academic records. Responsibilities also include developing and revising course content, participating in curriculum development and continuous improvement, and supporting student recruitment and retention for the RN-BSN program. The position requires maintaining a faculty presence, grading student work, participating in university committees, and pursuing professional growth opportunities in teaching pedagogies for adult learners. Additionally, the role supports University, College, and School of Nursing goals to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in nursing
• An unrestricted registered nurse licensure in the State of Ohio or current multi-state license.
• A minimum of two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse.
• Knowledge and experience with in-person or online learning environments, including the use of instructional technologies and tools to develop engaging online learning materials.
• Knowledge in community health, nursing leadership, evidence-based practice, professional nursing practice, adult complex health issues, or health promotion and wellness.
• Basic knowledge and experience with a learning management system.

Nice To Haves

• Doctorate degree preferred (PhD, DNP).
• 2 or more years of teaching experience with some online teaching experience.
• Skills in goal setting and team building.
• Analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate course and program activities.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses in the School of Nursing, in accordance with approved course outcomes, curriculum, and university policies.
• Deliver assigned in-person courses in an in-person learning environment in accordance with approved course outcomes, curriculum, and university policies.
• Provide clear and timely communication, instruction, feedback, and support to students.
• Monitor student participation and progress and communicate concerns regarding students who may be at risk for unsuccessful course completion.
• Maintain appropriate records of student grades, attendance/participation, and other required course documentation.
• Develop, revise, and maintain course content, learning activities, assignments, assessments, and asynchronous learning materials that support course, program, and institutional learning outcomes.
• Participate in curriculum development, course evaluation, and continuous improvement using current evidence, student outcomes, and faculty feedback.
• Support student recruitment, retention, progression, and successful completion of the RN-BSN program.
• Maintain regular faculty presence and engagement throughout assigned courses.
• Grade assignments, discussions, examinations, and other student work according to established course expectations and grading criteria.
• Participate in program, school, college and university-wide committees and service.
• Maintain professional credentials to support the program and seek out professional growth opportunities in current teaching and learning pedagogies related to the adult learner.
• Supporting University, College and School of Nursing goals to assure compliance with accreditation.
