About The Position

The History program in the Department of Social Sciences at Northeastern State University invites applications for a position as assistant professor (or instructor) in United States history. The ideal candidate will have academic specializations in and the ability to teach courses in one or more of the following: modern US history, Native American history, the history of the West, and/or the borderlands. The ability to integrate active learning and digital resources into the classroom is desired. Willingness to teach face-to-face or online is expected. The anticipated start date is January 2027. Duties include a 4/4 teaching load, encompassing both U.S. history surveys and upper-level courses in the candidate’s areas of specialization. Courses may be cross-listed with courses in the department of Cherokee and Indigenous Studies. Candidates should be willing to liaise with student and community organizations to promote learning activities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in history preferred by time of appointment; ABD considered.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
