About The Position

The Department of Economics (Business Program) at St. Olaf College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance to begin August 2027. This role involves providing leadership in curriculum development, teaching undergraduate courses in finance and general business, conducting scholarly research or practice-focused work, mentoring students, and participating in departmental service. The college emphasizes high-quality, inclusive undergraduate teaching and student-centered learning within a collaborative liberal arts environment.

Requirements

  • PhD/DBA (or ABD with expected completion by June 2027) OR MBA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or other relevant master’s degree and substantial senior-level industry experience.
  • Commitment to high-quality, inclusive undergraduate teaching.
  • Commitment to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to engage in ongoing scholarly research or practice-focused work in finance or related fields.
  • Ability to advise and supervise student projects.
  • Willingness to participate actively in departmental and college service.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in areas such as asset pricing, financial markets and institutions, risk management, fintech, or ESG finance.
  • Experience supporting courses like introductory business, strategic management, business analytics, or entrepreneurship.
  • Experience contributing to the development of a diverse and inclusive learning community through teaching, research, and/or service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership in developing and growing the finance curriculum and related co-curricular opportunities within the business program.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in corporate finance, investments, and additional finance electives aligned with their expertise (e.g., asset pricing, financial markets and institutions, risk management, fintech, or ESG finance).
  • Contribute to general business education by supporting courses such as introductory business, strategic management, business analytics, or entrepreneurship, depending on expertise and departmental needs.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality, inclusive undergraduate teaching and to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Engage in ongoing scholarly research or practice-focused work in finance or related fields.
  • Advise and supervise student projects that use quantitative methods to study issues in finance and business.
  • Participate actively in departmental and college service, including advising, curriculum development, and collaborative program initiatives.
