About The Position

Southwestern Community College District (SWCCD) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track, equity-focused faculty member committed to serving its culturally diverse student population. Requirements

Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR The equivalent.
Additional assessment is required for applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States.
Applicants must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services ( NACES ) and must submit a copy of the evaluation with the application.

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated ability to teach both lecture and laboratory courses in sports medicine, sport management and kinesiology disciplines
Current or previous certification as an Athletic Trainer (ATC/BOC) or other relevant sports medicine credential.
Experience working in a community with a similar diversity pattern as is found in the service area for Southwestern College is desirable.

Responsibilities

Providing high-quality instruction to a diverse student body preparing for careers or transfer in sports medicine, athletic training, physical therapy and exercise science.
Creating new Sports Medicine curriculum, Career Technical Education (CTE) programs and managing those programs.
Creating certificate programs, internships, working with work base learning and academic degree transfer within our course offerings to ensure student retention, completion and success.
Demonstrated knowledge of injury prevention, risk management, and evidence-based practices related to sports medicine, athletic training, and human performance.
Knowledge of principles and practices associated with care and prevention, first aid, emergency response, athletic injuries, rehabilitation, and wellness programming.
Demonstrate instructional excellence in core sports medicine and kinesiology courses using a variety of alternative teaching modalities.
Ability to effectively teach a variety of undergraduate and community college courses in areas such as Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Exercise Science and other Health related courses.
Ability to integrate clinical and industry experience into classroom instruction to provide students with practical, real-world applications of course content.
Ability to supervise and mentor students in laboratory, field, clinical, and experiential learning environments.
Ability to utilize technology and learning management systems to enhance instruction and student success.
Knowledge and practice of culturally responsive pedagogy and andragogy that support student-centered, self-reflective, and student-capable approaches which include a wide range of institutional delivery systems.
Commitment to fostering student success, equity, inclusion, and excellence in teaching and learning.
Commitment to advise students on academic pathways, transfer requirements, and careers in sports medicine or kinesiology.
Commitment to professional responsibilities and associations outside of the classroom through contributions to the department, division, and college activities.
