About The Position

The English Department at Marist University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English position in Technical and Professional Writing beginning Fall 2027. A willingness to work with undergraduate majors, minors, and non-majors from across campus is central to this position. We encourage applications from candidates with one or more of these specializations: Health/Medical Rhetorics, Disability Rhetorics, Cultural Rhetorics, Social Justice, and/or Writing in the Professions. We are seeking a broadly trained candidate who can teach introductory writing courses such as Writing for College and Intro to Professional Writing, as well as advanced undergraduate courses in their areas of specialization. This position requires the ability and willingness to teach classes across the discipline, mentor student projects and organizations, and collaborate with campus partners while supporting and expanding the Professional Writing minor and offerings.

Requirements

  • PhD in Rhetoric & Composition, English, or a related field in hand before the start date of the appointment.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the college level.

Nice To Haves

  • Specializations in Health/Medical Rhetorics, Disability Rhetorics, Cultural Rhetorics, Social Justice, and/or Writing in the Professions.
  • PhD in hand.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory writing courses such as Writing for College and Intro to Professional Writing.

  • Mentor student projects and organizations.
  • Collaborate with campus partners.
  • Support and expand the Professional Writing minor and offerings.
  • Participate regularly in service activities for students, Marist University, and the community.
