About The Position

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is undergoing growth and transformation, focusing on delivering high-value care, driving research and innovation, and cultivating excellence in medical education. The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) is a leader in advanced respiratory, critical care, and sleep medicine services, serving patients across three hospital campuses. The division offers comprehensive care for a broad spectrum of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep conditions, and faculty play key roles in intensive care units and ambulatory services. The ACGME-accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program provides comprehensive training. Research within the Division spans clinical, translational, and basic science domains. UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, with an emphasis on high-quality inpatient pulmonary and critical care. The successful candidate will join a team dedicated to exceptional patient care, clinical education, and scholarly and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient pulmonary and critical care, including management of chronic lung diseases, acute respiratory failure, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and ICU patients.
• Provide inpatient ICU and pulmonary consult services, including co-management of critically ill patients, ventilator management, and collaboration with ICU consultants.
• Provide outpatient pulmonary medicine care, including evaluation, diagnosis, and longitudinal management of patients.
• Participate in procedures such as intubation, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, central lines, and other bedside interventions, as appropriate to training and experience.
• Supervise and teach fellows in an inpatient pulmonary critical care setting.
• Participate in departmental and divisional M&M, quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including respiratory therapy, nursing, radiology, and surgery—for optimal patient outcomes
