About The Position

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is undergoing a period of growth and transformation, focusing on advancing its mission in high-value care, research, innovation, and medical education. The department is seeking faculty who are passionate about innovation and collaboration to shape the future of healthcare. The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) at UTMB is a leading provider of advanced respiratory, critical care, and sleep medicine services. The division comprises 14 faculty and 12 fellows and is dedicated to clinical care, research, and education across UTMB's hospital campuses. They offer comprehensive care for a wide range of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep conditions. This full-time position is for an Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of PCCSM, offering an opportunity to join a growing academic and clinical sleep medicine program. The role can be tailored to include critical care and/or pulmonary medicine responsibilities for candidates with dual interests.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Sleep Medicine.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional board certification in Pulmonary, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, or Pediatrics
  • Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
  • Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development in sleep medicine.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient sleep medicine services, including diagnostic evaluations, management of sleep disorders, and Inspire and PAP therapy oversight.
  • Interpret sleep studies (polysomnograms, home sleep tests, MSLTs/MWTs).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry, and ENT.
  • Participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Engage in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives, if desired.
  • Participate in critical care (ICU) coverage.
  • Practice pulmonary medicine (if board certified/eligible).
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and procedural pulmonary and critical care settings.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and sleep medicine focused academic programs.
