About The Position

This position is for an Assistant Professor of Clinical in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, specializing in Thoracic and Cytopathology. The role involves patient care services across multiple University of Miami facilities, including UMH, JMH, and SCCC, with a focus on the assigned specialty. Responsibilities include gross description, specimen photography, tissue sampling, microscopic examination, reporting findings, and verifying diagnoses. The position also entails performing Frozen Section diagnoses and autopsies when applicable, providing 24-hour call coverage, and participating in educational activities for residents, fellows, and medical students. There are opportunities for collaborative research and a requirement to maintain high standards for JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.

Requirements

Must be an M.D. or D.O.
Board Certified or Board eligible in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.
Strong general knowledge in Surgical Pathology including intraoperative evaluations.
Knowledge of Pathology Subspecialties including hematopathology, anatomic pathology and laboratory Medicine, according to assignment.
Ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional work force.
Experience with methods, tools and measurements for quality improvement to improve work processes using a team-based model.
Knowledge of regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP and CLIA.
Ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and diagnoses as definitive in the care and treatment of patients.
Knowledge of all hospital and service procedures and policies regarding hazardous material management, biohazard exposure and the use of universal precaution.

Responsibilities

Provide patient care services at UMH, JMH, and SCCC and their satellites.
Focus patient care services on the assigned specialty or specialties.
Perform gross description, take photographs of specimens when indicated, and perform tissue sampling.
Conduct microscopic examinations of surgical specimens and report findings.
Verify coding diagnoses in the computer in a timely manner (when applicable).
Perform Frozen Section diagnoses in a timely manner (when applicable).
Perform and report autopsies in a timely manner (when applicable).
Provide 24-hour call coverage according to assigned division/s (when applicable).
Participate in educational activities for pathology residents and fellows.
Participate in educational activities for medical students.
Participate in collaborative research opportunities (basic/clinical or applied research).
Collaborate with other investigators throughout the Medical Center.
Seek sponsored programs funding from grants and contracts.
Participate in daily quality assurance.
Participate in Department of Pathology hospital committees and working groups.
Maintain high standards of professional services to ensure JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.
